This morning while I am checking my Google+ profile, I got an notification alert from community of GDG Phnom Penh that shared a post about Khmer Language available on Google Translate. The news, it makes me feel so happy to hear, I think this info we are Khmer/Cambodian waiting for long.

It's a special gift for Cambodian users on occasion of Khmer New Year 2013.

What Google Translate team say about Khmer language for their service?
Today’s Khmer launch comes with these useful features: virtual keyboard (in case you want to type in Khmer but do not have Khmer keyboard handy) and ability to read Khmer text phonetically for users who don't read Khmer alphabet.
Google Translate Khmer Keyboard - Image source: Google Translate Blog
Khmer is a challenging language for translation systems for two reasons: There isn’t a lot of Khmer data on the web and words are not usually separated by spaces; so in addition to teaching our translation system a new language, it also has to learn how to separate words (what we call segmentation).

Over time, we will improve the system and make our Khmer translations better. We constantly improve our algorithm when we find new translations and learn from your alternative translations.
Thanks you - អរគុណអ្នក
Would you like to check this "Thanks you" on it? Find it here!

Finally, our language is stated on Google Translate. Bravo... Cambodia, Kingdom of Wonder!!!

In personal, I would appreciate for Google Translate team and Cambodian Khmer language team for your hard effort to make it worldwide available. Thank you all so much!

This morning, while I have checked my personal Youtube channel, I saw the new popup alert at the top of the channel.
It may introduce new stuff, I guessed that, I know Google never stop changing or improving more and more.
I am also a Youtuber who I like watching on it and uploading some stuff related IT, personal hobbies, events, tips etc. These why I have to note its improvement on my channel by updating it to use the new one.
Old Youtube layout
"You are more than the sum of your uploads. On your new channel, branding works across devices, you can reach out to non-subscribed viewers, and you can show off more of your content so fans will go deeper" - YouTube.
What impress me to switch to this new changes?
My sample banner photo
All improvement or updates are always good but some do not that based on the users' likes, if more they like it means it's great for such kind of changes. Any means, I do like it based on some features as such:
Nice Channel Art upload
- Banner: that allow me to upload photo with the size 2120 X 1192px (recommended), it's really nice to flexible based on your devices (Desktop, Mobile, Tablet) to use; its maximum scaled width, the channel 2120 X 350px, and the minimum is 1280 X 350px (it's a kindly of Responsive template). You can download my sample designed photo layout (in Photoshop format).
- View as public: allow me to check/view it when update or customize any points as public
- Social Links: locates at the bottom-right corner of banner which allows to visible one customized link (to my personal blog), and 4 social links (max links up to 18 social medias: Google+, Facebook, Twitter ...; but visible only 4 links)
- Channel Art (Edit): it allows me to change the cover nicely with adjustable photo to preview both on desktop and smart devices screen
- Customized content/layout: It's really nice stuffs which allow me to customize my videos in a bigger player mode as Trailer, below the banner photo. I can customize all contents (Popular uploads, Recent uploads, All playlist, Likes, Recent post, Recent activities, Single playlist, and Tag) onto first/home page by two layout styles (Horizontal row or Vertical list).

Now I have updated it to the Once Channel as shown in the below photo.
My YouTube One Channel

Finally, the old layout that allows to upload photo as background today it is out of my channel. I am pleased to share and keep its new feature tips in my blog. Do you like the new change? Check it out more features!

Youtube introduces YouTube One Channel - New design!

Today when +Song Sopheaktra, my colleague spoke out loudly "Wow!! Google+ cover photo got Bigger now!" around 4:00 P.M. At the time I have checked my Google+ profile to view it, then I got the highlight popup to inform me to update it to new cover photo.
It's cool that I can upload a big photo to my profile but I think it's a bit big, if anyone surfs their profile using slow speed internet, it will cause them loading slowly, so will it make them bored?
Luckily, presently even in my beloved country, Cambodia, Internet connection that most users use is improving much more if compared to last 4 or 5 years ago. But what I felt a bit strange on this information to update to new cover one, why Google+ doesn't give me like "Read more..." on this point; I wonder is there any policy or rule to upload it. Anyway, I hope Google+ will not ban or strict much on cover photo as Facebook does.

For my own experience on the cover, the previous one the size of photo was 940px X 160px but the new one is from minimum 960px X 545px up to 2120px X 1192px.

Finally, I can say "Yes" I like the new cover photo, and how about you?

Google+ just roll out Bigger Cover Photo

Mr. George Hotz
It's not a kind of hot news for this article "the first person who jailbreaks iPhone" but I think every iPhone owner (who likes Jailbreak ones) should know him. So I am writing here for his short profile, who is he, and how old ....?

Mr. George Hotz or George Francis Hotz (alias geohot, million75 or simply mil) was born on October 2, 1989 in Glen Rock, New Jersey (N.J.). He is an American teen hacker.

Mr. Hotz started to jailbreak an iPhone since  he was in 17 years old, June 2007, when he became the first person to jailbreak an iPhone (became the first to free the iPhone from its AT&T U.S. SIM card restrictions).

Whose iPhone he unlock for?
He traded his 2nd unlocked 8 GB iPhone to Terry Daidone, the founder of Certicell, for a Nissan 350Z and three 8 GB iPhones. Since that time, there're other companies in group who start developing Jailbreak software.

Who was the first person to jailbreak an iPhone?

Few year ago, Smart Mobile had merged with StarCell (prefix. 098) by using Smart Mobile's brand, and now omitted StarCell. Today I got news from my nephew late evening that Hello and Smart Mobile will be merged together, so I take my mobile to surf on press release of official website of Hello Axiata Company Limited ("Hello") announced the strategic merger of Hello and Latelz Company Limited ("Latelz"), which operates under the Smart Mobile brand name. And the merger will create the 2nd largest mobile telecommunications company in Cambodia with 5 million subscribers; for this point I used to hear directly from Smart Mobile's HR manager through attending his training with Aplus School at CJCC this year that his company now stands in number 2 (Mobitel "Cellcard" is number 1) of all 9 mobile operators in Cambodia.
Hello Axiata Chief Executive Officer Simon Perkins said:
"The time was right for consolidation in the mobile telecommunications market in Cambodia. Currently there are nine players in the market and we believe through consolidations it will come down to three to five operators. The time is right for us to consolidate and we at Smart Mobile and Hello are proud to be leading the way in Cambodia. And the merger would make it possible for the combined entity to enjoy better economies of scale, while eliminating duplication of costs. It will also facilitate synergies and the sharing of best practices between Hello Axiata and Smart Mobile.

We are confident that the merger will put us on a stronger footing and it will allow us to grow from strength to strength,"
As for Latelz’s CEO Thomas Hundt said:
"The combined entity would be able to offer more innovative and affordable mobile voice and mobile data products and services to its five million customers. Smart Mobile brings to this deal an efficient operation, a highly competent work force, a strong brand presence and a sizeable asset base and spectrum. Hello, on the other hand, has to offer a loyal customer base and the strength and scale of the Axiata Group.

We are excited with the prospects this enlarged within-network community can offer our customers. This will include, amongst others, an enhanced level of customer service and one of the biggest mobile networks of Cambodia in terms of coverage and capacity. We will also have one of the most extensive sales and distribution channels in Cambodia. And we expect the merger to be finalised latest by the end of first quarter 2013. Until then, it will be business as usual at both Hello and Smart Mobile without disruptions to the services that our customers currently enjoy."
From this official press news and Smart Mobile's website, I don't see any points which mention on how many percent of each company deal with. But I found an post from stating that Hello Axiata plans to acquire and merge with Latelz Company in a $155 million deal and will reportedly own 90% of the converged company.

Anyway, If Hello buys Smart Mobile using Smart Mobile brand name so all Hello points will be re-designed to be as Smart Store. And I hope the two merges will offer the users/subscribers in Cambodia with various services (better Internet speed/coverage...) in cheaper prices (local or roaming service), better customer services for them.

Finally, I still like the marketing concept of new creative promotion TV spot of Smart Mobile such as "Smart Xchange"; I can say this spot is new creative one for mobile ads on TVs in Cambodia, it's an updated spot based on today-tech, Cloud Computing. You can watch from this official TV spot in its Youtube:

I am about to leave from my office, I have checked my Facebook profile, I see a news feed from an official Facebook page of  U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, Cambodia about video game "Trace Effects" in 3-D. It's a new online video game for learners of English produced by the U.S. Department of State. I think it's new thing that I have to keep it in my blog to share for my readers as well.

Trace Effects will complement students’ classroom English language instruction through interactive 3-D multimedia learning adventures.
I just create an account to play it today too. Do you think it's a good game for whom like playing 3D game?

Recently, Nokia Head Quarter (HQ) in Espoo, Finland announced officially on its blog on December 4, 2012 that Nokia had agreed to sell and lease back its head office building on a long-term lease to Finland-based Exilion. They expect to complete the sale by the end of 2012. The selling price is EUR 170 million.
"We had a comprehensive sales process with both Finnish and foreign investors and we are very pleased with this outcome. As we have said before, owning real estate is not part of Nokia's core business and when good opportunities arise we are willing to exit these types of non-core assets. We are naturally continuing to operate in our head office building on a long-term basis," said Timo Ihamuotila, CFO, Nokia.
Note: Nokia has operated in the building since 1997. The 48,000 m2 building, designed by architect Pekka Helin, is located in Keilaniemi, Espoo, Finland.
Could this issue make Nokia’s employees in the world feel uncomfortable, especially in Cambodia?
Uh… for me, I think at least they will get wondered why the HQ do that. Anyway, now Nokia has been starting up from changing its original concept on sticking with Symbain OS to use Windows Phone OS; especially they, Nokia, use the first Windows Phone 8 for Nokia Lumia 920, 820 and 620. And there are other 3 companies that also initially launched this OS such as Samsung, Huawei, and HTC. All devices are based on System on Chips from Qualcomm. Unfortunately current Windows Phone 7.x devices cannot run or update to Windows Phone 8 and new applications compiled specifically for Windows Phone 8 are not made available for Windows Phone 7.x devices.
Talking about Windows 8, Microsoft (MDP) Cambodia officially launched it on November 15, 2012 at CJCC as mentioned more detail in my previous post, Microsoft Technology Innovation Day in Cambodia 2012.

Which model of Samsung, HTC, and China mobile maker, Huawei, use Windows Phone 8?
For Samsung, Windows Phone 8 is available in Samsung ATIV family (ATIV S, ATIV Tab, ATIV smart PC, and ATIV smart PC Pro).

For HTC, the Windows Phone 8 is available in HTC Windows Phone 8X.

For Huawei, it will be released in the model, Huawei Ascend W1.

What model of which brand do you select Windows Phone 8 to use? As for Nokia Lumia 920, will it be competed well with other brands like Samsung Galaxy SIII and iPhone 5 in Cambodian market?

Nokia Lumia 920, 820 in Cambodia?

Since I knew on how to use Google Map Maker (when I was in year 3 in the college, 2006), I have started mapping it so far, especially for my local business, attractive sites, public schools, and state offices etc. at my homeland, Takream commune, Banan district in Battambang province.

Do you know what is Google Map?
Now let me introduce it shortly as in quote "Google Maps is a map service that you view in your web browser. Depending on your location, you can view basic or custom maps and local business information, including business locations, contact information, and driving directions. Click and drag maps to view adjacent sections immediately. View satellite images of your desired location that you can zoom and pan."

So you know already what Google Map is, and then do you know what's Google Map Maker so?

Google Map Maker allows you to add and update geographic information for millions of users to see in Google Maps and Google Earth. By sharing information about the places you know, like your favorite restaurant, the baseball court where you go to play or the fastest path across your university campus, you can ensure the map accurately reflects the world around you. Your updates will be reviewed and, once approved, will appear online for the world to see.

In order to expand their map worldwide especially in an increasing economic & booming internet country, Cambodia. They, Google, had started its first campaign through Phnom Penh Google Technology User Group(PP-GTUG) in partnership with the second mobile operator in Cambodia, Smart Mobile, officially announced Cambodia Mapping Competition on 13 September 2012 for public with the following website,; by starting date from 15 October – 30 November 2012. It just finished yesterday.

I am also one of the 104 participants in this competition. All participants, I think they have each purpose to attend even myself.
For the winner will be offered the prize as the following:
• First Prize:  Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 16 GB 01
• Second Prize:  Samsung Galaxy Cooper 01
• Third Prize: External HDD 500 GB 01
• Fourth Prize:  Others
• Fifth, Sixth, Seventh Prize Others
* All Winner 1, 2 and 3 will be given 1 year FREE Call from Smart Mobile (10$ monthly).

For me, I have my own target to attend the competition since the beginning of the time, I told myself that I don't want to get any prize. Do you wonder why? The reason, my main purpose is to contribute what I know on the technology tool for my community or my country so this is a good chance to do so.

What my contribution through the competition (Google Map Maker) in Cambodia is nothing much; anywhere I mapped almost all I know well and for the new mapping locations like on the way from Phnom Penh to Prek Ambel in Kandal province, luckily I have a smartphone to help me (I always use it for) check-in on the place when I stopped or parked my lovely motorbike. During these duration, most I started mapping during my lunch time (when it's on working days), and for the night time, uhm...m, I used the take-care my son time to map it. While my beloved son got sleep, hehe... it was the time I contributed.

Check it out, my Google Map Maker profile, to see my contribution!

I think we know that it's a big effort for Cambodian participants to Google for its long term result but it also gives more benefits for our country in the future. I personally note that, since the edits result 15144 edits by the local organizer, I am very happy to see more location names appear in the Google Map. It will be more easy for me to go anywhere using mobile to find the place.

Finally, I very appreciate all participants who use their valuable time to contribute on this too. Let's keep mapping more!! Thank you all :-)!!!

Incredible Virtual Cube Laser Keyboard

Today when I check out my Gmail, I found an pop-up of introducing the new compose in Gmail, I personally like this new feature of it so I am writing what's the feature providing for the users.

Now you can write messages in a cleaner, simpler experience that puts the focus on your message itself, not all the features around it. Here are some of the highlights:
  • Fast: Compose messages right from your inbox.
  • Simple: Redesigned with a clean, streamlined look.
  • Powerful: Check emails as you're typing, minimize drafts for later, and even compose two messages at once
How many times have you been writing an email and had to reference something in another message? Saving a draft, opening the old email, and then reopening your draft wastes valuable minutes. The new compose pops up in a window, just like chats (only larger).

This makes it easy to reference any other emails without ever having to close your draft. You can even do a search or keep an eye on new mail as it comes in. And because the compose window works the same way as chats, you can write multiple messages at once and minimize a message to finish it later.

#Easier to use
The new compose is designed to let you focus on what's important: your message. The controls are still there when you need them but get out of the way when you don’t. We’ve even added some new features like the ability to easily insert inline images and have more to come.

And, when you add recipients to your message, you'll see profile pictures of your contacts in autocomplete helping you find the right person faster. You can also drag and drop the new address chips between to:, cc: and bcc:. When you’re done adding recipients, the address area collapses automatically to get out of your way.
You’ll also see these same changes when you respond to a message. The reply experience has been designed to fit better inline as part of your conversation -- replies take up much less vertical height, intelligently expand to fit your content, and always keep the recipients and other controls in view no matter how long your message gets.

What's the coming soon feature?

A few familiar features aren’t available yet, but they're working hard to make it available to us soon.
  • Insert emoticons and event invitations
  • Add labels to outgoing messages from the More menu
  • Send read receipts (Google Apps users only)
You can find out more on how to use it at the official Google Gmail help.

Announcing Instagram Web Profiles!
I am a lover of photography too beside blogging, social media and designing stuff. For today, I check out my Instagram app on my iOS device, I see an alert "Announcing Instagram Web Profiles!" then I feel happy to see that because I am myself waiting for that kind of URL name (I used to check the web profile often since I've token into this nice app).

For few main features that I like such as:
- 18 photo color adjustment options (include 1 option for normal or default photo color),
- Two focused tools (circle & rectangular)
- Rotation tool
- Frame tool
- Bright adjustment tool
- 5 social media sharing options (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, and Foursquare) + Email
- And anther nice feature "Geootagged" - location positioning that powered by Foursqare.

All above features and options that I think Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided to buy Instagram for roughly $1 billion in a combination of cash and stock this year 2012.

Here's my web profile on Instagram, Check it out below:

CJCC's LinkedIn page with new banner
I am a person in charge of social media of CJCC's pages on LinkedIn and others as well. As in my previous post about a text sharing social media, twitter updating its profile page with an image, today, 5th October 2012, I've checked this page, CJCC's LinkedIn, it's showing up with a notification on updating the page with a banner. So, I am checking out by following LinkedIn instruction and its banner image resolution & size.

Do you want this new feature of Linked page?

If yes, please go to LinkedIn address, sign in your profile account with password then go to your company menu "Companies" just take a mouse over on it, next kindly choose your company page to be edited; next go to the edit tab "Edit" at the top-right corner, then finally go to the image section by scrolling down a bit.
Note: Please read the following for image requirements/instruction:
- Image type/format: PNG, JPEG, or GIF with max size 2 MB
- Image resolution: 646x220 pixels (if bigger you still can upload but it will be cropped in the size)

I have checked out some popular social medias, LinkedIn itself, Facebook and other two mobile phone pages, Samsung Mobile, and Nokia. Would you like to see what their pages look like, please check the below:

Samsung Mobile:

So, I hope you also like this new feature as me too. Let enjoy it!!!!

LinkedIn upgrades the company page's new look

All popular social medias (Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn ...), they are keeping updated often; so this month, September, Twitter, a popular one in sharing linked text, also makes an update on its new profile that allows users to put an image as header like other social medias (Facebook & Google+) - its new profile goes to a new tab called "Me". While I'd checked my twitter profile on 19th September 2012, I saw a new notification about new feature of it, New Profile (with header image) but it officially sent this news on 29th to users' email. After getting that news, I tried a design image for header by following its recommendation on file's dimension, 1200x600, and maximum size, 5MB but unfortunately I made it in less than 500K, so while uploading, it doesn't show. Ok, let have a look how it's different between the old & the new profile both in web browser and mobile.
Twitter - old profile  | web browser view

Twitter - new profile  | web browser view

How do you think for this new feature of Twitter? And Do you like it?
If you also like it as me, so please go to your twitter account then go to to upload your favorite header image.

Twitter shows its new profile

I am a person who like using social medias: Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn for the purpose of personal and professional ways. Today when I check my work place Facebook Page, then just take a short switch to my personal profile to share some photos for my colleague (mostly I post only when breaking time), I see a new alert from Facebook "New! more beautiful view of photos". For my own view, I really like this new feature.

What's new in the feature?
When you want to view or take a look of your photos, in Facebook Timeline, with this feature you will see the default of Photos of You (total number of photos that your friends or fans tagged for you) showing in a row of 4 photos. And next it shows the Photos (your own photos only), it also displays in a row of 4 photos but what's different in the album? In this you can see the total number of your albums created , and you can create new one as well. What I like it is when hovering over the album, it will show the photos in that one randomly (the layout of displaying the album in 3 ones in a row).

Facebook mentions on three main features as the following:
1. Highlight your favorites (to make a photo bigger):
You can make your photo bigger than previous style by click the start symbol (*) in the corner of the photo. In this feature, if you click on one photo to highlight, your photo will auto-arrange, and if you keep clicking to view another photo next to previous one, it will show or display only two photos in a row; it's so cool.

2. Easily add details (Edit or Remove option):
To go to this feature, you can click on the pencil (in the right corner of your photo) then you can choose some options such as:
- Add Location (it's available when your photo posted without setting location)
- Change Date, - Make Profile Picture, - Make Cover, - Delete This Photo
- Make as Spam (shows only in the photo you set location already)

 3. Like and comment right there
When you hover over a photo of  yours, you can like or comment  with one click.

Finally, this is what I just want to share what improvement that this most popular social media is trying to be up-to-date for its users worldwide.
So, if you find any more features beside what I mentioned, please kindly share or comment for sharing.

We, Cambodian users, are pleased to see our language available in Microsoft Office (as interface or User Interface). And I, myself, would like to thank for related person in helping or translating our language with this popular office application.
You will ask or wonder What LIP means? Yeah, here it's: The Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) is a translated User Interface that installs on top of a copy of Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 or 2010, and can be downloaded and installed for free. With the LIP download, you can use Microsoft Excel, OneNote (Office 2010 only), Outlook, PowerPoint and Word features in a different language. After you have installed the LIP, you can change languages through Microsoft Office Language Preferences to see a translated user interface.
Nearly all available LIP languages also include a spelling checker. Translated Help is not part of the LIP download package, but may be available as a separate download for your selected language.
(***) If a language is available in a language pack or as a fully localized version, it is not available as a language interface pack. If the language you want is not listed here, please go to Office Language Packs (for Microsoft Office 2010). [Available LIP Downloads]
