It’s happened to many of us – at home and at work – when we want to save that extra photo, video file or important document and find that our computer, tablet or smartphone has run out of storage space.

For those of us who keep up to date on technological developments, we know that one relatively new solution to this frustration is using the ‘cloud’ to store our documents, files and business applications – enabling us to access them anywhere, any time, on any device.

Until now, the ‘cloud’ has been the exclusive domain of giant, global computing firms who have the infrastructure to support the massive amounts of storage needed to run a ‘cloud’ computing operation.

But thanks to its cutting edge technology, and its responsiveness to its customer’s demands, Cambodia’s leading internet company, EZECOM, will soon launch ibizCloud - a “Made in Cambodia” solution to the growing problem of IT capacities in our data-rich lives.

ibizCloud, a joint venture with Hong Kong telecoms giant Hutchison Global Communications, is initially aimed at the business market, offering an alternative to expensive on-site data management.

EZECOM will work with businesses to assess their data needs and IT requirements and then converge virtual, off-site data storage and management system – based in Cambodia, managed by Cambodians and still meeting all the strictest international security standards.

“Many businesses and IT managers are aware of cloud computing and the advantages it brings. But many are put off by the price tag from the global giants and the lack of face-to-face support from companies in the US or in Europe,” says Sok Yeng, Value Added Services Product Manager at EZECOM.

“ibizCloud is based in Cambodia and we understand Cambodian businesses so this will help ease any worries that businesses here have about using cloud computing – knowing that we are there, in person, to support them with their data management and storage,” says Sok Yeng.
The launch of ibizCloud comes at the start of a busy 2015 for EZECOM, which aims to build on its leading position as Cambodia’s number one internet and data services provider by being the first company in Cambodia to bring ashore a submarine fiber optic cable that will dramatically increase the internet bandwidth available and reliability to Cambodian internet users.

Now you can access your storage from anywhere, anytime and on any devices! ibizCloud's service provides you with:
  • Cloud Available Globally
  • Pioneer To On-demand VLL Service
  • Cloud-to-Cloud Private MPLS Connect
  • Defferent Tier Connectivity
  • Pay-as-you-go Charging Scheme
  • Fast Provisioning of Services
The slogan for this service "International Quality, Local Service".

Will Cambodian businesses support this made-in-Cambodia cloud service?
Personally, we have to support for this initiative idea and it is good opportunity to try and trust in term of support and quality.

In today technology, the 21st century - era of Social Media and Cloud Computing - where we are living in connecting to one another thru ease of technology no matter where you stay, we can keep in touch each. To stay away from those internal or external cyber threats, we must learn how to stay safe online for those children and parents.

Seeing that Ezecom, Cambodia’s leading internet service provider, will soon launch WebChlaat - an online guide for children and their parents to help children enjoy the internet while staying safe from cyber bullying and inappropriate content, according to the company's news.

WebChlaat” or ‘WebSmart” is a seven tip guide prepared by Ezecom in association with leading child rights advocacy groups Friends International and ChildSafe, which recently certified Ezecom as Cambodia’s first ChildSafe company.

Ezecom will be running a live banner on the CEN website (http://www.cen.com.kh/) in the next weeks – providing daily internet safety tips and a link to the WebChlaat site at http://webchlaat.com/.

Among the safety tips for children: be smart when making online friends, be smart what you share on the internet and be smart about emails from strangers.

For parents the tips include: be smart and prepared to answer tough questions, be smart about anti-virus software and be smart about cyber bullying and its consequences.

“As a parent myself of course I want my children to enjoy the learning opportunities, entertainment and other resources that the internet offers. But its important that we help parents and children talk openly about some of the dangers that lurk out there on the internet, so that we can all benefit from the power of the internet without falling victim to the perils,” said Ezecom CEO Paul Blanche-Horgan.

The WebChlaat website underlines Ezecom’s long term commitment to supporting education and children’s rights.

The company’s staff was recently the first workforce to be certified as ‘Child Safe’ by Friends International and ChildSafe, meaning that staff have received training on being aware and alert to evidence of child abuse and how to respond appropriately.

Photo: Smart Mobile
While getting into a crowded telecom market in Cambodia, Smart Axiata Company Limited or so-called Smart Mobile recently became a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) after it entered into a strategic merger with Hello Axiata Company Limited in 2012. It operates 2G, 2.5G, 3G, 3.75G mobile services, supporting the very latest in multimedia and mobile internet services as well as international roaming across more than 147 countries and its extensive nationwide network coverage is available in all 24 provinces in Cambodia, according to its company information. The technology is moving, so Smart cannot stop to offer the competitive promotions to the customers by various services - now it is starting to operate the first 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) technology in this Kingdom of Wonder, Cambodia.

Does Smart Mobile operate its 4G LTE nationwide?
No, currently it can offer only 6 locations in Phnom Penh city such as:
1. Smart Store Beung Trabek
2. Naga World Hotel and Casino
3. Sovanna Shopping Center
4. Ratana Plaza Shopping Mall
5. De Castle Toul Kork
6. Phnom Penh International Airport

This is a step-by-step improvement and also cost much money to expand the coverage. I think sooner it will be available nationwide.
You can find Smart 4G Zones on my map using Google Maps Engine:

What's different  between 3G and 4G?
Turning a bit to find out the difference between both technologies as the following:

3G

4G

Data Throughput Up to 3.1Mbps with an average speed range between 0.5 to 1.5 Mbps Practically speaking, 2 to 12 Mbps (Telstra in Australia claims up to 40 Mbps) but potential estimated at a range of 100 to 300 Mbps.
Peak Upload Rate 5 Mbps 500 Mbps
Peak Download Rate 100 Mbps 1 Gbps
Switching Technique packet switching packet switching, message switching
Network Architecture Wide Area Cell Based Integration of wireless LAN and Wide area.
Services And Applications CDMA 2000, UMTS, EDGE etc Wimax2 and LTE-Advance
Forward error correction (FEC) 3G uses Turbo codes for error correction. Concatenated codes are used for error corrections in 4G.
Frequency Band 1.8 – 2.5 GHz 2 – 8 GHz

Which company is Smart's competitor in the technology, 4G?
Personally, I think there is only one company that presently got into Cambodia telecom market is Chinese mobile operator called Xinwei (Cambodia) Telecom Co. Ltd. with CooTel-branded. CooTel it has some strong points such as being the first mobile operator in network marketing, and various services (CooCall, CooHome, CooVoice, CooSurf, SimLess, CamTalk, CooMarts, CooBill), and especially the future expanding its network coverage signal to reach 90 percent of the Cambodian population.

So, you may know which one is the first operator that makes itself the 1st 4G telecom network ever built in Cambodia - it is CooTel (prefix number, 038)!. But there are two main points that they both differentiate are:
1. Smart offers 4G LTE (revolution of GSM technology), or be easy to think, it uses SIM card; when we need just buy SIM only.
2. CooTel offers SCDMA technology or it uses SIM-cardless (No SIM card) - similar to ExeCell-018 operates; when we need we have to buy its phone.
In short, CooTel selling both services and its own phones and if it becomes popular among Cambodian users so the market of CDMA phones will boom, am I right?.

After all above, I have some questions for you as a checklist before you decide to catch up with today-technology:
1. What is your decision to choose the technology for your daily Internet usage (3.75G, 4G or CDMA)?
2. How much are you able to spend on those (supported smart devices: mobile, tablet, modem)
3. Does it really fit to your needs (for study, research, fun, work etc.)?
4. Do all mobile operators in Cambodia offer you with good services as you expected?

Let's wait and try the new technology together!

Smart Mobile - the First to Operate 4G LTE in Cambodia

While reading news on Internet and Facebook news feed yesterday evening, most of my friends shared and congratulated on "Cambodia's first Oscar nomination" then I have tried to read and search more detail. So, I found it! It is true, and it really makes me feel proud of that news as I am a movie hunter and Cambodian citizen too.
This Khmer movie titled "កង្វះរូបភាព (in Khmer language) or The Missing Picture" which directed by Cambodian famous film-maker, Mr. Rithy Panh.

As posted on the official Facebook page of the movie and stated on Oscar website, this is the first Academy Award nomination for Cambodia at the 86th  Oscar Academy Awards.

Does it the first Cambodia films submit to Oscar committee?
No, it is the third submission that Cambodia has submitted to Oscar, The Foreign Language Film Award Committee. The first Oscar submission, The Rice People "អ្នកស្រែ (Neak Sre)" - in 1994 at the 67th Academy Awards, is a Khmer language drama also directed by Mr. Rithy Panh, about a family of women struggling to survive after the death of the family patriarch from a foot infection. For the second submission, Lost Loves "ឃ្លាតទៅសែនឆ្ងាយ" - in 2012, is a drama film in the Khmer language that directed by Mr. Chhay Bora and based on real events - it is the first Cambodian film in more than 20 years to deal with facts during the Khmer Rouge era.

You can watch its trailer and find out more about the-Oscar award movie as the following:

Note: You can watch it by translation into Khmer language
Film SynopsisFew images exist of the brutality unleashed on Cambodia by Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge following the Kampuchean Revolution in 1975. Using clay figures to stand in for himself, his family and the many Cambodians whose lives were destroyed during the years that followed, Rithy Panh recreates a dark and bloody period in his country's history.

My message for all Khmer film-makers:
In here, I would like to thank for all Cambodian film-makers especial Mr. Rithy Panh who has great effort to make our Khmer films nominated in the international stage, Oscar. I am really proud of them! This is a good sign that all newbies or professional local film-makers, Cambodia, could learn from the achievements.
For the final selection will be on March 2, 2014. So, please wish our film win the prize!!
